It all started small, like every board game collection. But as our obsession with playing to learn increased, so did our need to organize. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, homeschooler, or simply a game lover, everyone needs good board game storage. 

It makes the difference in just playing a few titles here and there versus actually rotating through the games you own because you can see and know what you own!

If you’re looking for some great overall approaches to tackling board game organization, we’ve compiled some of our tried and true board game storage techniques. Depending on your setup, remember that sometimes game storage solutions differ based on need or access. So sometimes we group by subject matter like science or money while other times we’re storing them by type like cards or dice because it means easier to consolidate boxes.

Game storage ideas on a budget

We regularly peruse the Dollar Store to find great ideas for helping contain parts and pieces to our games. Sometimes they have soap containers perfect for card games and they always have great cube organizers in both fabric and plastic. 

How to organize smaller parts, pieces, cards, and dice

This is the true headache of having games. We love to play, but hate losing all the component parts! This is especially important for teachers and librarians to keep track of because of the likelihood they’ll never be found again.
