Patriotic fun for your little one! How to make an Uncle Sam or Eagle print.

Whether you let your child have a creative painting endeavor or guide them in the process of making a beautiful patriotic gift, these Uncle Sam and Eagle hand print crafts are perfect for the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veteran’s day or any time you’re learning about American History!

Handprint Art Supplies:

• Canvas
• Paint
• Paint Brush
• Scissors
• Glue
• Black Marker
• Black & White Cardstock.

How to make an Uncle Sam Handprint

Let your child paint their hand red, blue, white and peach toned paint. (Refer to the photo). While you can work to make sure they keep their hand open to avoid smearing the paint, in many ways I like making it a bit more open-ended to let them creatively express themselves.

Personally, I think it’s a lovely idea to make a pretty and a creative version… because creativity is an important aspect of learning.

Let your child press their hand down firmly onto the canvas towards the bottom. Help your child gently lift their hand off the canvas as needed.

Allow the handprint to dry completely.

Repeat the steps above but this time, paint your child’s palm peach/tan. Paint your child’s middle finger blue and the index and pointer finger red.

Turn the canvas around.

Press your child’s hand down firmly onto the canvas gently overlapping the first handprint just a little bit. Again, allow the handprint to dry completely. Paint your child’s index finger red and press down onto the hat. Repeat again with white paint. (refer to the photo)

Dip your child’s fingertip into the tan paint and give Uncle Sam ears. the same can be done with white paint and give Uncle Sam some hair and a beard and pink paint and give Uncle Sam rosey cheeks.

Paint tiny stars onto the hat. or give your child stickers or little pieces of star confetti to glue onto the hat.

Let them use a black marker to add eyes, a nose, mouth and chin.

You can also use the marker to trace the stars, white areas of the hat and hair and add stripes to the white portion of the shirt,

How to make an Eagle from a handprint

For this Handprint, make sure to use your canvas in landscape position.

Paint your child’s 3 middle fingers with white paint and let them press it on a canvas.

Repeat the steps above but this time, paint your child’s hand and fingers brown and their thumb white.

Dip your child’s fingertip into yellow paint and give the eagle a beak.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Use a black marker to add eyes and to trace around any white area to make the paint stand out.

Your eagle handprint craft is complete!
